The Internet has really become a very helpful tool for each and every one. It is used for research and especially entertainment. It is also a portal where people can accomplish paying bills, enrolling, filling out forms and the like. Internet has definitely made our lives easier and transactions faster. The only problem that hinders us from performing these duties is the speed of Internet connection.

In the past when Internet was introduced the only choice of connection is a dial-up connection. As the number of people connected to the Internet increases the slower the speed of Internet connection becomes. The scenario is that when users use their computers to connect to the Internet at the same time, it will really put a toll on the connection. Not to mention downloading with a dial-up connection is very frustrating. Another thing is that dial-up connection uses telephone line so the phone is not to be used when the computer is connected to the Internet. Like when downloading only 1 MB can take several hours when it comes to high speed broadband connection, it can only take a few minutes or even seconds. And in addition, it is not connected to any telephone line so both the computer and the telephone can be used simultaneously. So when the number of people using the Internet increased from hundreds to millions the high speed broadband Internet connection was introduced.

With the use of a high-speed broadband connection, the users are able to get a higher bandwidth which provides them instant access to the virtual world. Other kinds of Internet connection that was introduced are ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line), DSL (Digital Subscriber Line), Cable, T1 lines and Wireless (Satellite). The speed, hardware used, connection availability and price will differ from one country to another.

Another comparison when it comes to using high speed broadband and dial-up connection is that the computer is always connected to the Internet when it comes to broadband. While on the other hand, the computer is only connected to the Internet when it is to be used that is for the dial-up connection. The user will literally dial a certain number so that the computer can be connected to the Internet. Of course when the telephone line is cut or has no dial tone automatically the computer cannot connect to the Internet. Even loading web pages can be a hassle for dial-up connections when it comes to broadband connections it is the total opposite.

When it comes to speed, it is obvious that the high speed broadband connection is 10 times faster when compared to dial-up connections. For a T1 line connection, it can reach up to 1.5 Mbps. Cable modems is reported to be four times faster than T1 line connections. While ADSL download speed can range from 256 kbps or up to 8 mbps. High speed broadband connection is perfect for home use and the connection can be shared by up to two computers. Three or more than computers sharing broadband connection can result to a slow connection and most especially download speed.
