Apparently everyone is going on and on about fibre optic highspeed broadband.  So why are they so obsessed with this technololgy and what the hell is it anyway?  We’ll try to resolve some of these issues and put you straight on one or two things…

Fibre optic technology has been around for a long time, and i’m sure you’ll already know this, but how does it relate to highspeed broadband?  Well it’s like this.  As opposed to the copper wires used by most broadband companies to deliver phone calls and information into your homes, Virgin Media use fibre optic cables.

The old copper cables used to allow the slowing down of information as it travelled through the network, and it got slower the further away you were from a telephone exchange.  With fibre optics this problem has been overcome.  Fibre optic technology uses fibres that are made of  glass that are specifically designed to carry information from one place to another without any slowing down.  This is why Virgin Media can boast the incredible speeds they do.

You don’t even need a phone line to take full advantage of Virgin Media either, it doesn’t take long to set up and it’s completely wireless!

Check them out and compare the prices with some of the other highspeed internet providers around; i think you’ll find that they compete rather nicely!
